On the 6th June 1944, one of the most important events in history occurred only a few miles from the south coast of England. After 5 years of total war, an Anglo-American armada crossed the English Channel and landed in Normandy. The invasion force then began the immense task of the liberation of the Western Europe from Nazi tyranny. Northern France was liberated by the end of the August 1944. The troops then regrouped driving into Germany where they met Soviet forces coming from the East bringing Nazi Reich to the end.
To mark this, our tour has been designed by Mark Horner, of Salient Tours, and is exclusive to Equity. Guided tours are included and cover all the most significant sites. The itinerary follows the events as they unfolded, mostly from a British perspective, being focused on the beaches of Sword, Juno and Gold, but the American landings on Omaha and Utah beaches are also covered.

History of D-Day landings
After months of meticulous planning, the Allies grabbed a short weatherwindow and bringing their artificial harbours with them, landed a massive force, and rapidly consolidated the bridgehead. Although extremely perilous and uncertain, the D-Day landings were an almost flawless military success, and resulted in immediate incursions of British and American troops into France.
