Free Study Bookpack
The free educational study course and workbook based on the battles of Ypres and living
conditions in and around the Ypres Salient during the First World War has been produced by the In Flanders Field Museum, and provides:

- How to organise a class visit to the Museum.
- Notes on class visits to battlefield cemeteries.
- Worksheets on the museum, cemetery visits, the progress of the war.
- Answers for the worksheets.
First World War Study Tour
The impact and significance of the Great War now forms a cornerstone of most Modern History courses and these unique Equity Study Courses tie in with the requirements of the National Curriculum.
You can study both the Somme and the Ypres Salient on the same tour, maximising the educational content whilst minimising costs.
Alternatively, your group can take a day trip to either the Somme or Ypres battlefield sites or a short break of just one night. Ask us for details.
Should you wish to organise your own tour of battlefield sites without a guide, we can arrange your own tailor-made itinerary and book all your visits. Please call us to discuss your requirements.
WWI Sample Itinerary - FRANCE & BELGIUM
Day 1
Depart school by coach for late morning Dover-Calais ferry crossing. Continue to your hotel for your evening meal (first meal). Travelling time Calais to resort: 1½ hour approx. Your guide will meet you at the hotel.
Day 2
4 hour tour of the Ypres battlefields visiting Aeroplane Cemetery, Langemarck German Cemetery, St Julien Gas Attack Memorial, Tyne Cot Cemetery and Hill 62 and Sanctuary Wood (entry payable). Afternoon visit to In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres. Return to your hotel or restaurant for early evening meal, followed by a visit to Menin Gate for the Last Post Ceremony at 8 pm.
Day 3
4 hour tour of the Somme battlefields visiting Vimy Ridge trenches (on request), Newfoundland Park Trenches at Beaumont-Hamel, Thiepval Memorial to the Missing, the Ulster Tower and Lochnagar Crater at La Boisselle. Afternoon free for further visits. Return to the hotel for dinner.
Day 4
Travel to Calais with packed lunches for return journey. Optional stop at Hypermarket time permitting.
